Outreach Intern Wanted for Zero Waste Washington
Zero Waste Washington is looking for an Outreach Intern to work 8-15 hours per week for a minimum of a four month commitment. This is an unpaid internship.
We are looking for someone with the ability to learn quickly, work independently, and communicate well.
Who we are: Zero Waste Washington is a small but effective grassroots organization that has been the catalyst for breakthrough recycling and waste reduction programs and legislation in Washington State for almost 30 years. Zero Waste Washington is the public's voice for recycling and zero waste. We protect people and our natural world by advocating for products designed and produced to be healthy, safe, and continually recycled and reused. We use three main strategies to address the root causes of issues: advocating for policy and system changes, engaging people in driving those system changes, and implementing pilot projects to demonstrate that the desired changes are possible. Zero Waste Washington uses “producer responsibility” as a tool to decrease toxicity in products and increase recycling.
Position Description: Zero Waste Washington is looking for an Outreach Intern to perform grassroots outreach to support our campaigns for producer responsibility. The schedule of when the work is to be performed is flexible, and the Outreach Intern will work very independently once trained. Access to a car is not absolutely necessary but will be helpful at times.
The Outreach Intern will be supported to learn about the issues and develop a short-term outreach plan. The Outreach Intern will: talk with people one-on-one, table at events, post information on our website and Facebook page, perform some small amount of database entry, and help with various other outreach related activities. If interested, the work of this position could also involve writing articles, developing digital media, or performing research.
Candidate Qualifications: Candidates should be self-motivated, responsible, energetic, personable, and comfortable with talking to people. Candidates should also be proficient in using a computer. Last but not least, candidates should be passionate about creating a world that is healthier and more just!
